EME 2040 First Blog

 1. I am a second year senior at FSU. I plan on graduating this summer and then getting my Masters in Educational Psychology. I want to be a teacher and am very interested in how ADHD affects learning. I have ADHD, love to paint, listen to music 24/7, and dogs are my favorite animal. I am kind and help others. 

2. My use of technology in an educational setting is very limited. I am not good with technology at all and often have to ask my friends to figure out things on my computer. So, this class will be very useful for my future career. The extent of my knowledge on this subject is making presentations and using a large screen for a microteaching experience. 

3. I am still unsure on what exactly a personal learning network (PLN) actually refers to. I often go to Strozier and do homework for many hours straight in order to free up time for other things. My computer and phone are my biggest resources for information. I enjoy reading studies about ADHD, so research studies on ADHD, neurodiversity, and education are definitely in my PLN.

    Hi, Caitlyn! I'm taking an educational psychology class right now, and if you're planning on getting a a Masters in it, I salute you! Whew. The background you picked for your blog is really cute! I like the mountains; I wish we had some terrain like that in Florida.
    I also struggle with some technology, so we have that in common! I'm looking forward to this class helping me with technology too, especially things like Excel!
    I think an easy way to think of a PLN is like a group of people, or a website even, that relate to your educational goals, professional goals, or even are a group of friends with common interests. Going to Strozier is a good start, but do you have a study group for a class? That could be a PLN! :)

    Hi Caitlyn! I enjoyed reading your blog post! I love Educational Psychology as well and your focus on how ADHD affects learning is very interesting! I can relate as I feel like my main Personal Learning Network can be from social media and my different devices

 1. I experienced distant learning while in high school. I do like distant learning and online classes when they are asynchronous because then I can complete assignments and watch lectures when I have the capacity to. However, I do not like synchrounous online classes because I find I can't pay attention to lectures online or in person. I think distant learning lectures are just more difficult than in person lectures. As a teacher, having students create things and do things related to the material could greatly improve engagement.  2.  1. Instagram has always been a useful tool for my PLN. It's an app that many other college studetns have, so I am able to get in contact with group members and peers for various assignments and resources. For this class I have been using Instagram to follow some classmates and trending teacher accounts. Twitter could be useful for coming across teaching resources and information. As a teacher, Twitter could also be useful for finding current news and protests to attend. 2. The digital divide is a very serious problem that affects many students nationwide. Not all students have access to computers, laptops, phones, or internet in general. This can make it very difficult to complete homework at home, access textbooks, study, and contact others. A major cause of the digital divide is poverty, which is then exacerbated by the digital divide as more privileged students use their resources and disadvantaged students fall behind. 1. Many copyrighted work is permitted for teaching and education under fair use. As a teacher, I will have to navigate what work is alright to use and make sure I follow any laws, but I don't forsee that being a huge issue. I hope to make my content and assessments according to what is required for the course, and making my own classroom material in this way should therefore avoid using copyrighted work. Developing my own instructional materials will also prevent students from just googling all the answers, so there are multiple benefits to that.  2. Certainly, with the increased use of technology, academ ic dishonesty is easier than ever. I could use a program like TurnItIn to check students work and make sure it's not plagiarized. I think making sure students know the repercussions to cheating is the best way to avoid it, and I would also want to make sure my students understand how them cheating affects their grades and peers, since it could affect any curve in the class.
