Blog Journal #2

I have very limited experience using MS Word, and can’t really remember using it for anything in particular. I prefer using Google Docs. I prefer Google Docs because it’s the software I’ve used all through K-12 and at FSU, so I understand how to use it. I would like to learn more about MS Word, however.

I wasn’t aware of ISTE standards, so I found it interesting that standards for teachers are changing alongside the time period we are in. I think that educators should have some base understanding of technology that can help them teach, because all tools are helpful. I like that the website linked on this assignment shows how teachers can progress their understanding of technology from “learner” to “analyst.” I also appreciate that culture and student diversity are considered with technology.

I think that people being born today are definitely “digital natives,” and in fact my generation is too. In high school, I remember my teachers struggling with the projector technology and then my peers helping them, so there is a difference in understanding. However, this isn’t true for everyone my age, and I am a prime example of this. My parents are both in technology and have done their best to teach me how to be technologically capable, but I just never really learned. I still don’t know how to use a USB, for example. So, there are individual differences but I do believe younger generations are more like “digital natives.” I am pretty sure my future students will be helping me with technology pretty often.
